Mental
If you need help now
Mental is a self-help tool with no one on the other end — it cannot tell that you are struggling and cannot alert anyone. If you are in crisis or in immediate danger, contact your local emergency number or a crisis line in your country. Please also talk to a qualified professional if your mood has been low for a while or is affecting your daily life.
On your phone, and nowhere else. Mental has no account and no cloud, so nothing syncs and nothing transfers to a new device on its own. That is the point of the app — but it means you hold the only copy.
Open Settings → Export a copy. Mental writes a dated mental-backup-YYYY-MM-DD.json file and hands it to your share sheet, so you can put it in Files, Drive, email it to yourself — wherever you like. Do this occasionally. Export is free and always will be; a private app you cannot back up is fragile, not private.
Use Settings → Restore from a backup and pick an exported file. Existing entries are kept and the file is merged in, so restoring the same backup twice is harmless. If a backup reached you as text rather than a file, tap "Or paste the backup as text" under the same row.
Without an export there is nothing to restore. We hold no copy of your data and cannot recover it — not as a policy, but because it was never sent to us. Sorry; that is the same reason nobody else can read your notes either.
Open Settings → Restore purchases, and make sure you are signed in to the same App Store or Google Play account you bought it with. Purchases are tied to that store account, not to the app or to any profile with us. The same button works on a new phone.
Subscriptions are managed entirely by your app store. On iOS: Settings → your name → Subscriptions. On Android: Play Store → Profile → Payments & subscriptions. Cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends to avoid renewal. The lifetime purchase is one-time and has nothing to cancel. Refunds are handled by the store under its own rules; we cannot issue them.
Free, forever: check-ins with the full 40-word emotion vocabulary, factors, private notes, your journal for the last 30 days, box breathing, grounding, gratitude, five habits, the 7-day insight view, and export and restore.
Plus adds: the other four breathing patterns and longer sessions, thought records, your complete history with search, 30- and 90-day trends and factor correlations, the month calendar, and unlimited habits including your own wording.
The rule we hold ourselves to: nothing that helps in a bad moment sits behind the paywall.
The reminder is scheduled locally by your phone, so it needs notification permission. Check that notifications are allowed for Mental in your system settings, then toggle Settings → Daily reminder off and on again to re-schedule it. Battery-saver and "focus"/"do not disturb" modes can also hold notifications back.
Reminders do not work in Expo Go — only in a real installed build.
They are arithmetic on what you typed, not findings about you. "Work days run 0.8 lower" means the check-ins you tagged "work" averaged 0.8 lower than the ones you did not. It is a small, self-selected sample, and a correlation is not a cause — read it as something worth noticing, not as a verdict. See the Terms of Use.
Factor correlations need a few tagged check-ins on both sides before they appear, which is why the section stays empty at first.
Mental starts in your device's language when it ships one — currently English, Spanish and Turkish — and you can switch it any time in Settings → Language.
Entirely. There is no account, no sign-up and no data connection needed to use any part of the app. Purchases and app updates are the only things that ever touch the network.
Settings → Delete everything, then confirm. That erases every check-in, note, practice and habit from the device. Removing the app does the same. There is no server-side copy to ask us about.
Use the support email listed on the app's store page. If you are reporting a bug, telling us your device, OS version and the app version from Settings → About makes it much faster to fix.
